Jack Horkheimer: The reason I loved astronomy so much, dies at 72

It's Saturday night almost midnight.  I was 10 years old and probably staying at my grandma's house for the weekend.  I quickly would rush to the television and turn on PBS; never since Sesame Street was I excited PBS.  "Star Gazer" was about to come on the air for it's 5 minute episode of the week.  I love the goofy music and (sometimes) goofy way Jack would talk about this weeks astronomy highlights.  There was always a highlight of the week; special planets in view to something unique about a specific star.

My heart sank today when I learned that Jack Horkeimer died on Friday at the age of 72.  He (unknowingly) taught me so much about the stars.  His show illustrated clearly that we here on Earth are so small compared this huge universe that we can get a glimpse of every single night; just by looking up.

His last episode that he filmed was about the "Summer Triangle."  For the rest of my life, I know every labor day weekend I will see Altair, Deneb, and Vega and be reminded of Jack, my childhood and the big universe that is out there.  Below is the last video he did (good news, you don't have to wait until midnight tonight to watch it).

I am back on Flickr!

My Pro Flickr account had expired a few months ago and I never got around to renewing it.  Finally, today was the day though.  Now I can have my photostreams back and look at more than the last 200 photos.  Also, I have been visiting a lot of my photos over the last 10 months.  So I can wait to get them up on Flickr to share.

Splintr.com did a great job on a documentary of Nine Inch Nails' during their Wave Goodbye tour.  The documentary is about 18 minutes and it has some well produced live videos as well!  GO CHECK IT OUT!
